CASA for Children (nonprofit child advocacy agency)
seeks dynamic person to assume professional PT position in Lexington. Duties include
training and supervising volunteers working with child abuse case assignments.
Qualifications include knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, court
matters, child welfare and juvenile justice issues; excellent report writing and
organizational skills, a detail-orientation, ability to multi-task and respond
to competing priorities, willingness to travel within the region and to work
flexible hours. Must have a degree from an accredited college/university (human

Job Description
Primary Purposes
- To
promote the quality and effectiveness of advocacy for CASA children in all
geographic service areas
- To
provide guidance and support to CASA Volunteers in all geographic service
areas
Responsibilities and Duties
I. Volunteer Management - Training (10%
Program Support)
·
Oversees CASA Volunteer Initial Trainings (2-3
sessions annually), with assistance from Executive Director and Office Support
Specialist,
·
Oversees post-interview of prospective CASA Volunteers
·
Participates in induction ceremonies and
receptions
·
Oversees In-Service Training Events
II. Case
Management (70% Program Support)
·
Assists with initial intake for cases by reviewing
court file and completing intake form, as needed
·
Prepares an initial case action plan
·
Meets with CASA
Volunteer and assigns case
·
Compiles "Assignment Notification Letters” for
legal parties
·
Ensures proactive Case Advocacy by:
1. Reviewing
every Monthly Volunteer Activity
report by end of each month
2. Completing
Monthly Case Review form for each
case and submitting to ED for review by end of each month
3. Reviewing
Court Hearings/Court Report Schedule
spreadsheet each month
4. Reviewing
VOCA Exception report each month

Assists CASA
Volunteer with Court Reports by:
1. Editing
Assessment portion of report 20-30 days prior to due date to court
2. Finalizing
Summary portion & submitting prior to due date
3. Ensuring
copies are received by legal parties prior to hearing
·
Proactively prepares for each Court Hearing by:
1. Attending
court hearings
2. Ensuring
CASA Volunteer conveys any last minutes updates/concerns, and fulfills his/her duties
outside and inside the court room
3. Networking
with collaborative partners (Judges, GALS, social workers, other professionals)
4. Taking
detailed notes of events inside & outside courtroom, then typing them to
share with staff
5. Obtaining
copy of the notice for next hearing
6. Ensuring
proper release of CASA services, as needed
7. Utilizing
downtime wisely by communicating with collaborative partners regarding other
CASA cases, and by taking extra work such as monthly activity reports to review

Conducts visits with or on behalf of CASA
Volunteer as needed
·
Proactively plans and/or attends various
inter-agency meetings with CASA
Volunteer, as needed
·
Ensures adequate case coverage during CASA Volunteer’s absence
·
Updates COMET
database regularly for case details, regularly copying correspondences into
"Meeting” field
·
Conducts case closure meeting with CASA
volunteer & collects his/her file & ensures completion of Volunteer
Status form
·
Complies "Case Closure Notification letters” for
Judges and legal parties
·
Complies "Case Closure Notification letters” for
legal parties and collaterals
·
Updates COMET database for case closing data
·
Prepares annual evaluations of CASA Volunteers
III. Liaison & Publicity
(10% Program Support)
·
Serves as the liaison to local Social Workers on
behalf of CASA
·
Serves as the liaison to local GALs on behalf of
CASA
·
Serves as the liaison to local Clerks on behalf
of CASA
·
Serves as CASA representative to other
coalitions as directed by Executive Director
IV. Additional Responsibilities (4% Program Support)
·
Checks mail twice a week (risk management
procedure)
·
Provide office coverage as assigned by Executive
Director
·
Performs other duties as assigned by Executive
Director
V. Professional Development (6%
Program Support)
·
Attends training conferences and/or seminars as
requested by Executive Director
·
Maintains knowledge of current literature and resources
related to child abuse prevention and advocacy
Training and Experience
·
A degree from an accredited college or
university in the field of human services preferred
·
Knowledge of volunteer service through
participation
