CASA Volunteer Description

What Does it Take to be a CASA Volunteer?

Commitment: When a CASA volunteer takes on a case, he/she takes on a child's future. When first assigned, the volunteer spends around 5 hours per week researching and interviewing. Following the initial investigation, the volunteer spends about 1-2 hours per week monitoring the case. Most case assignments last 1 year to 1.5 years.

Objectivity: The CASA volunteer's role is to represent the best interest of the child. He or she must be able to talk to everyone involved in the case and remain objective throughout the process.

Good Communication Skills: The CASA volunteer must be able to talk to a wide variety of people from social workers, school personnel, children, attorneys, and parents. He or she must also have good record keeping abilities and writing skills.
